The T2 buffer weighs 5.6 ounces and sits in the sweet spot for shooters running larger cartridges like 300 BLK, 7.62×39, and 6.5 Grendel through 16-inch barrels or working with shorter gas systems. The heavier weight slows bolt carrier velocity to smooth out the impulse instead of delivering that sharp, snappy recoil you get from standard carbine buffers. Inside the buffer sits four sliding weights held in place by an internal spring, which keeps everything quiet and consistent shot after shot. Standard carbine buffers only have three weights, so this extra mass gives you more tuning room.
The receiver extension is about three-quarters of an inch longer than carbine-length tubes, which lets BCM use the rifle-length M16A4 spring. That spring has more coils spread over a longer distance, which means the system can absorb recoil over a longer travel and reduces bolt bounce that can hurt reliability. The MK2 receiver extension is hardcoat anodized 7075-T6 aluminum with eight stock positions for adjustment. All components meet mil-spec dimensions, so you're not stuck with some proprietary ecosystem beyond this kit.
Because the tube is slightly longer, some mil-spec stocks may not collapse all the way to the castle nut. That's worth checking if you're running a stock you already own. The T2 weight is specifically matched to this system and won't work with standard carbine tubes. If you're building a rifle that's going to run suppressed or you want to tame recoil on a mid-length barrel, this is a straightforward choice. Installation is no different from a standard buffer tube setup.

The T2 at 5.6 ounces works well with intermediate cartridges like 300 BLK, 7.62×39, and 6.5 Grendel. For standard 5.56 NATO with longer barrels, the lighter T1 (4.7oz) is another option. BCM also makes T0, T3, and T4 weights for different setups and cartridge combinations.
