The Allen ULTRX Sound Blocker is passive hearing protection done right: no batteries, no buttons, no fuss. It carries a 23 dB Noise Reduction Rating, which is plenty of muffling power for the range, the reloading bench, mowing the yard, or running power tools in the shop. If you want dependable ear pro that just works every time you slip it on, this is a solid pick that won't complicate your life.
Comfort is where these really earn their keep. The soft, padded ear cups and cushioned headband spread the pressure out so you're not fighting a pinched, sweaty feeling after an hour on the line. At roughly 227 grams, they're light enough that you almost forget you've got them on, which matters a lot when you're logging a long session or a full workday.
The frame folds down flat, so instead of an awkward set of muffs hogging space, you get something that tucks neatly into a range bag, a toolbox, or a truck console. The all-black look keeps it low key, and the build holds up to the kind of everyday knocking around these tend to see.
These meet ANSI S3.19 and CE EN 352-2 standards, so the 23 dB rating is backed by real testing, not just marketing. They cover a wide range of loud environments, from indoor pistol ranges to construction sites and woodworking. If you're after amplified sound with electronics, Allen makes a powered E-Muff version, but for straightforward, grab-and-go protection at a friendly price, the passive Sound Blocker hits the mark. Toss a pair in your bag and you'll never be caught without ear pro when things get loud.
It carries a 23 dB Noise Reduction Rating, which is a solid level of protection for most shooting and work environments. That covers indoor and outdoor range use, power tools, yard equipment, and construction noise. It's a passive muff, so the rating is consistent every time without needing batteries.
Yes, comfort is one of their strong points. The soft, padded ear cups and cushioned headband help spread out the pressure, and at around 227 grams they stay light on your head. That makes a real difference during long range sessions or a full day on the job.
Absolutely. The frame folds into a compact shape that slides easily into a range bag, toolbox, or truck console. It's a handy setup if you want ear pro on hand without it taking up much room.
No, the Sound Blocker is a fully passive earmuff with no batteries or microphones. If you want amplified hearing so you can hear conversation and range commands between shots, Allen offers a powered ULTRX E-Muff instead. For simple, reliable protection, the passive version does the job well.
