Nothing about the guts of this gun was cheapened, and that matters when you're touching off .45 Colt from a 3-inch barrel.
The double barrel handles .45 Colt and 2.5-inch .410 shotshells interchangeably, which makes this little gun surprisingly flexible. Load buckshot for close-range defense, birdshot for snakes on the trail, or classic .45 Colt when you want a solid single projectile. And since the Grizzly accepts all standard Bond Arms interchangeable barrels, a quick swap with an Allen wrench opens the door to a whole list of other calibers down the road. It runs as a single action with a rebounding hammer, retracting firing pins, a spring-loaded cammed locking lever, and a cross-bolt safety.
The extended rosewood grips are the standout feature here. They're longer than the stubby panels on most derringers, carved with grizzly bear artwork and checkering, and they give your whole hand something to hold onto. The difference is purely cosmetic. The Grizzly uses the same grade of stainless steel and the same internal parts as Bond Arms' premium models, but skips the extensive hand polishing in favor of a bead-blasted finish. You may see faint tool marks and casting lines, which is part of the rugged look, while function and durability stay the same.
The extended rosewood grips are a big help here, giving your whole hand a place to land instead of the two-finger hold typical of smaller derringers. Recoil with full-power .45 Colt is stout but manageable for a gun this size, and many .410 defensive loads are noticeably softer shooting.
