Description

Born out of an Italian-Russian joint venture and first introduced in 2012, the Strike One was originally developed as a next-generation service pistol to replace the aging Makarov for Russian military and law enforcement. American Precision Firearms now brings it to U.S. civilians, and the design concept is genuinely unlike anything else in the striker-fired market. Where most modern pistols rely on a Browning-style tilting barrel, the Strike One uses the patented AF Speedlock system, a Y-shaped locking block that drops vertically during the recoil cycle, allowing the barrel to travel straight back in a single linear motion rather than tilting. That non-tilting barrel is what makes the bore axis so remarkably low: just 12mm from the barrel centerline to the top of the grip, compared to 20mm on a Glock 17 and over 30mm on most Beretta designs. Less leverage means less muzzle flip, and that translates directly to faster, more accurate follow-up shots.

What Makes the Strike One's Recoil System Different

Because the barrel moves only a fraction of an inch before the locking block drops and the slide takes over, the mass shifting around in your hands during firing is significantly reduced. Range reviewers consistently note that the muzzle comes back on target quicker than with comparable full-size 9mms, and that the grip ergonomics reinforce this further. The deep beavertail allows a high, firm grip close to the bore, and the textured polymer frame gives you something to hold onto during fast strings of fire. The full-length Picatinny rail up front gives you room to mount a full-size light without it extending past the muzzle.

Strike One Specs and What Comes in the Box

This 10-round configuration comes with a 5-inch barrel, fixed 3-dot sights, and a matte black finish on the polymer frame. It ships with two 10-round magazines and carries a listed weight of about 26.5 ounces unloaded. There is no manual thumb safety; the trigger uses an integrated pivoting safety in the trigger shoe itself, along with a firing pin safety and disconnector. The trigger pull is rated around 5.3 pounds, with a break that most users find smooth enough for both range work and practical use. If you want something that genuinely stands out mechanically and shoots flatter than almost anything else in this size class, the Strike One earns its reputation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Strike One's action different from a standard striker-fired pistol?

Most striker-fired pistols use a Browning-style tilting barrel that cams upward and downward during the recoil cycle. The Strike One uses the patented AF Speedlock system, where a Y-shaped locking block drops vertically to release the barrel, which then travels straight back in a single linear motion. This keeps the bore axis at just 12mm above the grip, compared to 20mm or more on most competitors, resulting in noticeably less muzzle flip and faster sight recovery between shots.

Is the Strike One a good choice for range use and home defense?

The full-size format, 5-inch barrel, and extremely low bore axis make it well suited for range sessions where shot-to-shot recovery speed matters. The deep grip, textured polymer frame, and high beavertail cut all support a firm, consistent hold. For home defense, the integrated Picatinny rail up front can accommodate a full-size weapon light, and the 10-round magazine capacity works for that role.

Does the Strike One have a manual safety?

No, this model does not include a manual thumb safety. It relies on an integrated pivoting trigger shoe safety, a firing pin block safety, and a disconnector. This is the same passive safety arrangement found on Glocks and many other modern striker-fired pistols, where the gun will not fire unless the trigger is deliberately and fully pressed.

Is the Strike One rated for +P ammunition?

Yes, the Strike One platform is rated for +P and +P+ ammunition. The design was originally engineered to handle hot Russian military 9mm loads (7N21 and 7N31) that perform close to .357 SIG pressure levels, so standard and +P self-defense loads are well within spec.

Who makes the Strike One, and what is American Precision Firearms?

The Strike One was originally developed by Arsenal Firearms, an Italian-Russian joint venture founded by Nicola Bandini and Dmitry Streshinsky. American Precision Firearms is the U.S. importer and distributor that brought the design back to the American market under the Strike One name. The pistol itself is manufactured in Italy.

What holsters and accessories are compatible with the Strike One?

Due to the Strike One's unique profile and extremely low bore axis, the slide sits much lower on the frame than a typical pistol. This means it will not fit holsters designed for Glocks, M&Ps, or other common platforms. You will need a holster specifically made or custom-molded for the Strike One. The full-length Picatinny rail is standard-spec and will accept most rail-mounted lights and lasers.
