Description

Most snub nose revolvers come in two flavors, blued or stainless. The Chameleon takes a different road. Charter Arms dressed this Undercover Lite in a high-polish iridescent Cerakote that shifts between blue and green depending on how the light hits it, then set it off with a blacked-out cylinder and matching black rubber grip. It is easily one of the most eye-catching wheelguns in the case, and underneath the flash it is the same proven five-shot .38 Special that Charter has been building its reputation on for decades.

A Chameleon That Pulls Its Weight

The frame is aircraft-grade aluminum, which brings the whole package in around 12 ounces. That is light enough that you stop noticing it in a holster, on your ankle, or in a bag. The 2-inch barrel is one piece with the lug and front sight, threaded into the frame, with 8-groove button rifling. You also get Charter's three-point cylinder lock-up, a shrouded ejector rod, and a full hammer block safety system. And since it is rated for +P ammunition, you can load it with modern defensive rounds without a second thought.

Simple Controls, Real-World Ready

This one runs double action or single action thanks to the standard exposed hammer, so you can stage a slow, deliberate shot at the range or just pull straight through when it counts. The fixed sights have nothing to snag, lose, or knock out of alignment, and the finger-grooved rubber grip soaks up recoil better than you would expect from a gun this light. There is no side plate and no cylinder stop to get in the way of speedloaders, so reloads stay quick and clean.

Why the Chameleon Earns a Spot

American made, five shots of .38 Special, a trigger you can run all day, and a finish nobody else at the range will be wearing. Whether this is a first revolver, a lightweight carry piece, or a fun addition to the collection, the Chameleon covers the practical side and brings some personality along with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Charter Arms Chameleon shoot +P ammunition?

Yes, the Chameleon is +P rated, so you can run modern defensive .38 Special +P loads through it. For high-volume practice sessions, standard pressure .38 Special is easier on your hand and your wallet, then you can carry it loaded with your preferred +P defensive round.

Is the Chameleon double action only, or does it have a single action option?

This model has a standard exposed hammer, so it runs both ways. You can fire it double action with a straight pull of the trigger, or cock the hammer first for a lighter, crisper single action break. That flexibility makes it a nice pick for newer revolver owners learning trigger control.

How heavy is the Charter Arms Chameleon and is it good for concealed carry?

It weighs right around 12 ounces thanks to its aircraft-grade aluminum frame, which puts it among the lighter snub nose revolvers out there. Combined with the 2-inch barrel, compact five-shot cylinder, and snag-free fixed sights, it disappears easily in a waistband, pocket, or ankle holster.

Does the Chameleon's finish actually change color?

The high-polish iridescent Cerakote shifts between blue and green tones depending on the angle and lighting, which is where the Chameleon name comes from. The black cylinder and black rubber grip give it a sharp two-tone contrast. Cerakote is also a durable ceramic-based coating, so the finish holds up well to regular handling and carry.
