The 10mm Auto has made a big comeback in recent years, and Smith & Wesson answered the call by chambering their flagship M&P M2.0 platform for it. This full-size model pairs a 4.6 inch stainless steel barrel wearing S&W's tough Armornite finish with a matte black polymer frame, and it manages to keep the whole package right around 29 ounces. That is light enough to carry all day on a backcountry hike but substantial enough to keep the 10mm's bite manageable, helped along by the M&P's famously low bore axis that cuts down on muzzle flip between shots.
The slide comes cut for red dots straight from the factory, and the white dot sights sit at optic height so you keep a usable sight picture with or without glass mounted. Forward and rear serrations give you plenty of purchase for press checks, and the Picatinny rail up front handles a light or laser without fuss. Four interchangeable palmswell inserts in S, M, ML, and L sizes let you dial in grip fit and trigger reach, and the aggressive M2.0 texture keeps the gun planted when full-power loads start barking.
Inside, an extended stainless steel chassis runs through the frame to cut flex and torque under recoil, which matters a lot more with 10mm than it does with 9mm. The M2.0 flat face trigger gives you consistent finger placement and a crisp break with a tactile, audible reset, and the 1:10 twist barrel stabilizes everything from light target loads to heavy hardcast woods ammo. This version adds a manual thumb safety for folks who want that extra layer, and takedown is handled through S&W's sear deactivation system so you never have to pull the trigger to strip it.

No optic is included, but the slide arrives cut for red dots from the factory. Smith & Wesson supplies mounting hardware to fit a wide range of popular micro red dot footprints, so most common optics bolt right on. The included white dot sights sit at optic height, so they still co-witness through most mounted red dots.
The 10mm Auto definitely has more push than a 9mm, but this pistol handles it better than you might expect. The low bore axis, aggressive grip texture, and full-size frame all work together to tame muzzle rise, and the internal stainless chassis keeps the frame from flexing under recoil. Most people find it stout but very controllable, especially with mid-range loads.
That is one of the main reasons this pistol exists. At around 29 ounces with 15+1 capacity, it carries a lot easier than a big-bore revolver while feeding heavy hardcast and bonded 10mm loads through its 1:10 twist barrel. Pair it with a red dot and a chest holster and you have a very capable trail companion.
Yes, this specific model (SKU 13388) includes a frame-mounted manual thumb safety in addition to the standard striker-fired internal safeties. Smith & Wesson also offers the same pistol without the thumb safety, so double check the part number if you have a preference either way.
