Yes, this magazine is designed for both models and follows OEM specification for direct fit compatibility. The 10-round standard capacity works in all P228 and P229 9mm pistols. If your P229 was manufactured after 2010 with the updated frame, make sure it's chambered in 9mm, as the frame geometry was revised for those models.
The larger P226 9mm magazines will physically fit in a P229, but they'll extend below the grip and won't seat flush. This isn't ideal for carry or concealment. Stick with magazines designed for the P228/P229 to maintain the compact profile and proper fit.
The removable baseplate allows you to take it apart for cleaning. Simply remove the baseplate, slide out the spring and follower, and wipe down all components with a cloth. Inspect the feed lips for damage and ensure the spring still has good tension before reassembling.
