The Spencer was the rifle that changed everything. Designed by Christopher Spencer in 1860 and famously endorsed by President Lincoln after a personal demonstration, it gave Union cavalry seven shots when most soldiers were still fumbling with paper cartridges and ramrods. After the war it rode west as the primary US Cavalry carbine through the Indian Wars. Cimarron's 1865 Spencer Repeating Carbine brings that piece of history back, chambered in .45 Colt so you can feed it ammo you can find at any decent gun counter.
This is not your typical side-gate lever gun, and that is a big part of the charm. The seven-round tube magazine loads through the buttstock, and working the lever drops the breechblock to eject and chamber rounds. The hammer is cocked by hand for each shot, exactly like the originals. It takes a firm, deliberate stroke on the lever, and stick with flat nose bullets since round nose profiles sit against primers in the tube. It is chambered in .45 Colt, which keeps ammo easy to find compared to the original rimfire cartridges. Because the magazine is a tube in the buttstock, you should only run flat nose bullets. Round or pointed profiles can rest against the primer of the round ahead of them, so flat nose loads are both safer and feed more smoothly.
Rounds load through a tube magazine in the buttstock, holding seven total. Working the lever ejects the spent case and feeds a fresh round, but unlike a Winchester-style lever gun, it does not cock the hammer. You thumb the hammer back manually for each shot, just like the Civil War originals. It also cycles best with a firm, deliberate lever stroke.
It stays very true to the 1865 pattern, right down to the color case hardened receiver, ladder rear sight, walnut furniture, and cavalry saddle ring. The main update is the modern .45 Colt chambering in place of the obsolete Spencer rimfire rounds, which makes it far more practical to shoot regularly.
