Left-handed hunters do not get many options at the top shelf, and this one earns its spot. The Mesa FFT Titanium takes Christensen Arms' proven stainless barrel platform and pairs it with a natural titanium receiver and a Flash Forged Technology carbon fiber stock, bringing the starting weight down to around 5.1 pounds. That is featherweight territory for a rifle with a steel barrel, and it makes a real difference on the third day of an elk hunt when every ounce in your pack feels doubled.
The 20 inch featherlight contour barrel is 416R stainless, button rifled, hand lapped, and match chambered with a 1:8 twist that stabilizes the long, high-BC bullets 6.5 Creedmoor is famous for. It comes free-floated and threaded 5/8×24 with a removable seamless radial brake, so swapping to a suppressor is a five minute job. Despite the short tube, this barrel has a reputation for producing velocities close to what you would expect from longer barrels, which keeps your downrange energy where it needs to be. Feeding comes from a 4+1 internal magazine with a billet aluminum hinged floorplate, and the receiver accepts standard Remington 700 pattern scope bases, so mounting glass is simple.
The true left-hand action means the bolt is where it belongs, no reaching over the receiver between shots. A TriggerTech trigger breaks clean and crisp, the action is spot bedded into carbon fiber pillars, and the natural carbon stock with metallic gray accents looks as good as it functions. Christensen backs the whole package with their Sub-MOA accuracy guarantee.
This is a backcountry rifle first. The 6.5 Creedmoor chambering gives you mild recoil, a flat trajectory, and plenty of reach for deer, antelope, and similar game at practical hunting distances. If you have been hauling an eight pound rifle up ridgelines, picking this one up for the first time is a bit of a revelation.
This is a true left-hand action, meaning the bolt handle and ejection port are set up on the left side of the receiver. The FFT sporter stock itself is a fairly neutral design, but the action is purpose-built for left-handed operation. No reaching over the scope to run the bolt.
Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard pattern for most 30 caliber and smaller rifle suppressors. The seamless radial brake removes easily, so you can swap between the brake and a can without any gunsmithing.
Less than you might expect. Christensen's hand-lapped 416R barrels have a reputation for running fast for their length, with owners reporting velocities close to typical 22 inch barrels. For hunting distances, the 6.5 Creedmoor still delivers plenty of energy and a flat trajectory out of this setup.
The receiver is compatible with standard Remington 700 pattern bases, which is about as common as it gets. That opens the door to a huge selection of one-piece rails and two-piece bases from just about every mount maker. A 20 MOA rail is a popular choice if you plan to stretch this rifle out.
