The B5 Systems Type 23 P-Grip is one of those upgrades that quietly earns its keep. Swap it onto your AR and the first thing you notice is the angle. At a steeper, more vertical 13 degrees, it sits closer to how your wrist naturally wants to hold the rifle when you're standing squared up behind it, especially with a plate carrier or a shorter carbine stock. Compared to the old A2 grip that was built around a bladed prone stance, this one just feels more at home for the way most people run a rifle today. It's earned a reputation for good reason, showing up as OEM furniture on rifles from makers like IWI and Sons of Liberty Gunworks.
Two things do the heavy lifting here. The extended tang and beavertail push your hand higher up on the grip for a firmer, more repeatable hold, and the more upright angle helps your trigger finger index cleanly instead of reaching around. That combination also cuts down on the finger-to-trigger-guard rub some folks get with stock grips. The beavertail is the reason this is the Type 23 and not the Type 22, and it's shaped to sit right on standard mil-spec forged lowers.
The body is molded from durable polymer with an aggressive, medium-coarse texture that bites into your palm and fingers without shredding your skin. It holds up when your hands are sweaty, wet, or gloved, which is exactly what you want out of a working grip. At roughly 2.2 ounces it adds almost nothing to your build, and the polymer shrugs off dirt, moisture, and solvents, so it's happy to live on a truck gun or a range rifle for years.
Installation is a simple drop-in job using the included hardware, so it takes the place of your factory grip in a couple of minutes with basic tools. The hollow core accepts B5 Systems grip plugs and battery plugs (sold separately) if you want to stash a spare battery or small tools inside. The Type 23 has a prominent beavertail at the back that sits flush against standard mil-spec forged AR lowers. The Type 22 skips the beavertail, which makes it a better match for billet or non-standard receivers like the BRN-180 where a beavertail can leave odd gaps. If you're running a typical mil-spec lower, the Type 23 is the one you want.
Yes, it's a drop-in replacement for standard AR-platform pistol grips and installs with the included hardware. It's shaped for mil-spec forged lowers, so it lines up cleanly with the receiver on the vast majority of AR-15 builds. Swapping it out is a quick job with basic tools.
The grip core is hollow and accepts B5 Systems grip plugs and battery plugs, but those are sold separately. Out of the box you get the grip and the mounting hardware. If you want to store a spare battery or small tools inside, plan on picking up a B5 plug to go with it.
